SAO PAULO, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- A woman traveling in Northern Brazil with her family discovered a sloth slowly crossing the road and escorted him to the other side.

Jennifer Snell, who posted footage of the rescue to YouTube, said she and her family noticed the sloth trying to cross the road while they were traveling through Northern Brazil last autumn.

The video shows Snell attempt to lift the sloth, but soon discovering it's sharp claws could be a problem.

"It's for holding on to trees," a child's voice explains.

Snell eventually coaxes the sloth into grabbing hold of a stick that she then uses to carry the animal safely to the side of the road.

"Found this guy 'running' across a busy road in Northern Brazil. Pulled over and got him to safety!" Snell wrote in the video's description.
