Staff were eventually able to capture Clive with the help of Cats Nottingham Rescue. Thanks to his microchip, they were able to trace him to a family in Toton who said he had been missing since October 2014.
"It's a mystery as to where he has been over the past 14 months but we think he couldn't have ended up in a better place, what with all the free pet food he could dream of, not forgetting the odd warehouse mouse," a Kennelgate press release stated.
After his yearlong adventure Clive was eventually returned to his owner Tanya Irons who was surprised to see that the cat had gained weight while he was away.
"I can't believe he's so porky!" she told the BBC. "He liked to go outside a lot, but we think somebody must have been feeding him, he's such a lovely cat."
