MORRO BAY, Calif., Feb. 4 (UPI) -- Police in California said Burger King employees who smashed the eatery's windows were acting on the instructions of a prankster.

The Morro Bay Police Department said workers at the Burger King received a call late Saturday from a prankster who claimed to be a fire department official warning them of a gas leak at the eatery.

The employees, acting on the instructions of the caller, smashed out the fast food restaurant's windows to allow the nonexistent gas to escape.

Video posted Facebook by witness Brian Jagger shows the employees breaking the windows and crashing a car through the front doors in the misguided quest for ventilation. The video has since been removed.

Police said the investigation into the incident, which caused major damage to the business, is ongoing.
