COOKSTOWN, Northern Ireland, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- A cloud formation making it appear as if the Eye of Sauron was watching Northern Ireland Tuesday was part of a larger formation of colorful nacreous clouds.

The video, filmed Tuesday morning, features a colorful eye-shape peeking through the clouds over Cookstown that resembles the evil Eye of Sauron from The Lord of the Rings.

A second video filmed over Hessle, England, shows a larger, clearer formation of rainbow-colored nacreous clouds Tuesday morning.

Nacreous clouds, also known as mother of pearl clouds or polar stratospheric clouds, require frigid conditions in the lower stratosphere, higher than where most clouds sit, and are most commonly seen at high latitude locations such as Scandinavia, Iceland, Alaska and Northern Canada.
