Cheetah sprints alongside canine companion in San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Feb. 1 (UPI) -- The San Diego Zoo Safari Park shared video of its resident cheetah and his canine companion showing off their top speed sprints at the park.

The zoo, which introduced Ruuxa the cheetah to Raina the Rhodesian ridgeback dog then they were 4 and 5 weeks old, respectively, posted video to Facebook depicting the companions showing off their speedy sprints at the zoo's Cheetah Run.

The animals are baited to run by a stuffed animal at the end of a rope.

Ruuxa was introduced to Raina after being rejected by his mother. The dog's companionship was credited with helping the cheetah recover from surgery to his front legs in 2014.
