Winter weather gives China its very own 'ice car'

QINGDAO, China, Jan. 29 (UPI) -- Northern China can now boast its very own "ice car" after freezing temperatures and precipitation caused a vehicle to become encased in ice.

Video recorded Monday in Qingdao shows a car encased in ice after being left parked overnight in a location where it was struck by water that quickly froze.

The car is reportedly frozen to the point where the doors on at least one side can't be opened.

The frozen vehicle evokes memories of the Hamburg, N.Y., "ice car," which became encased in ice earlier this month when it was parked overnight in a spot where it was struck by freezing waves from Lake Erie. The car was freed by a towing crew after several days encased in the ice.
