HAMBURG, N.Y., Jan. 12 (UPI) -- The New York state owner of a car frozen in place by waves from Lake Erie joked he will have to wait until "summer" to retrieve his ride.

Justin Yelen, 24, said he left his car parked overnight along Route 5 in Hamburg because he had been drinking with friends. He returned the following day to discover his ride had been transformed into an ice sculpture by waves from Lake Erie.

Photos of the frozen car went viral after being picked up by several news outlets.

"I hope summer comes soon," Yelen joked to WKBW-TV.

Yelen was asked whether he thought there was any damage to the vehicle.

"I hope not," he said. "There probably is!"

Yelen's father, Joe, said he doesn't yet have a plan to recover the automobile.

"Now I have another thing to try to figure out," Joe Yelen said. "We're going to have to somehow tow it to a warm garage and get it warmed up. I'm leaving that up to Justin!"
