NEW YORK, Jan. 11 (UPI) -- The organizers of the No Pants Subway Ride said tens of thousands of people in more than 60 cities worldwide shed their trousers and boarded trains for the 15th annual event.

Improv Everywhere, the New York-based comedy collective that began the tradition in 2002, said participants in more than 60 cities around the world, including New York, London, Tokyo, Moscow, Jerusalem and Prague, rode subway trains sans slacks Sunday.

"The participants behave as if they do not know each other, and they all wear winter coats, hats, scarves, and gloves," Improv Everywhere said of the event on its official website. "The only unusual thing is their lack of pants."

Moscow police said Monday they are investigating social media posts from Sunday's event to determine whether participants violated any laws. The Communists of Russia, a marginal political party, had earlier called for pantless subway riders in Moscow and St. Petersburg to face charges after they "challenged public morality and traditional values" with the stunt.
