Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe FREMONT, Calif., Dec. 9 (UPI) -- Police in California said a "very lucky" man sleeping in a restaurant's trash bin survived two rounds of compacting in the back of a garbage truck. Fremont police said the 44-year-old man was sleeping in a large trash bin behind Dino's Family Restaurant early Monday when the container was dumped into the back of a Republic Services truck. Advertisement Police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques said workers activated the truck's compactor after the bin was finished dumping. The compactor was run a second time after a stop at the Jack in the Box next door to Dino's, Bosques said. She said the man managed to avoid being crushed both times and was able to climb out through an opening in the truck's roof. He was not seriously injured. "He was very lucky to have survived the compaction and get out of the truck safely," Bosques told the Bay Area News Group. Police said the man has multiple outstanding warrants, but the nature of the warrants was not released. The man was taken to a local hospital and placed on a psychiatric hold.
