LOS ANGELES, Oct. 7 (UPI) -- Los Angeles police said officers were called to wrangle a runaway miniature horse reported running loose in traffic.

Officer Jack Richter of the Los Angeles Police Department said officers were called about 9:45 p.m. Tuesday to the Northridge neighborhood, where witnesses reported the pint-sized equine was running loose in traffic.

Police were able to get a leash on the small horse and summoned animal control officers to the scene.

Residents snapped pictures of the horse after its capture and posted them to Twitter.

Investigators were working to identify the owner of the apparently escaped animal.

The miniature horse was not the only one of its species to be caught by police this week -- the Gregg County Sheriff's Office in Texas said it was trying to find the owner of a mini horse caught wandering near a power plant Monday.
