SACRAMENTO, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- California Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill legalizing street use of "beer bikes" -- mobile bars with room for up to 15 seated passengers to peddle.

The governor then took a ride on the beer bike with state Sen. Richard Pan, D-Sacramento, the bill's author.

Beer bikes have become popular methods of transport for tour groups in Sacramento and San Diego. The bikes make frequent stops at restaurants and bars.

The bill signed by Brown leaves it up to local governments to determine whether alcohol can be served while the bikes are in motion.
