MONROVIA, Calif., July 28 (UPI) -- A California woman snapped pictures of an uninvited pool guest that just couldn't bear the heat without an afternoon dip.

Miriam Childers of Monrovia said she was at home with her kids Monday afternoon when she looked out her kitchen window and saw a bear escaping the mid-80s heat with a cool dip in her family's pool.

"He was having a great time until I scared him away, hitting a pan with a wooden spoon. I let him play for a while because he was being adorable, and oh, so happy," Childers told KABC-TV.

Childers' daughter, Yvette, said the unexpected visitor showed her how animals and people are similar.

"Bears are really like humans," she told KTLA-TV. "They need to cool off too. We go in the pool if it's hot."

Childers said the bear, which has visited her property in the past, left claw marks on the bottom of her pool.
