BUTTE, Mont., July 27 (UPI) -- A daredevil driver soared through the air for 166 feet in the cab of a semi truck at the Evel Knievel Days stunt festival in Montana.

Gregg Godfrey, who set the Guinness World Record in the category in 2008 by jumping a semi 50 feet from a ramp, surpassed his own accomplishment Friday in Butte by jumping a semi truck 166 feet from a ramp.

The Friday jump also surpassed the 83-foot record set by EMC and the Lotus F1 team in 2014, when they jumped a semi hauling a trailer over a moving Formula One car.

Video of the event was shared on social media.

Godfrey said in an Instagram post he was only aiming for 140 feet when he made the 166-foot jump.

The official Instagram account for Evel Knievel himself praised Godfrey, saying his jump "just brought Evel Knievel Days to a whole new level."
