LONDON, July 23 (UPI) -- A spy camera set up outside a polar bear den was discovered by a proud mama bear who used it to film her baby's first steps outside.

The video, which was filmed by John Downer Productions as part of a BBC documentary and posted to YouTube, shows the camera being toyed with by the mother bear before the baby emerges from the den and takes its first steps outside in a moment reminiscent of home movies shot by human families.

The mother bear then spins the camera around for a selfie with her cub before pushing it down an incline. The bears take one last curious look at the camera before walking off into the distance.

"Our 'Spy Cameras' captured the most intimate images of polar bears, including a cub's first steps outside of a den, thanks to some help from his mother!" the video's description reads.

The footage was filmed for the BBC documentary, Polar Bear -- Spy on the Ice.
