BANGKOK, July 20 (UPI) -- A tourist in Bangkok captured video of a "huge" purported komodo dragon wandering a sewer under a street in the city's downtown.

The video, posted to YouTube by John Hernandez, shows a large lizard in the sewer below a street grate and Hernandez said locals told him the animal was a komodo dragon.

"Yep! I was outside of a temple in downtown Bangkok and people were screaming and pointing into the sewer. There it was. I got the video to prove it!" he wrote in the video's description.

Hernandez said in a Reddit post that locals hold him komodo dragons can sometimes be seen hunting in packs for rats.

One Redditor suggested the animal might not be a komodo dragon, which are primarily found in Indonesia, but rather a similarly-sized water monitor.

"Komodos can eat half a goat whole, so dining on rats in the sewers would not be enough. They're extremely dangerous animals and would be taken far more seriously than folks in the video seem to," Redditor justcauseofit wrote.
