MARS, Pa., July 10 (UPI) -- A Pennsylvania dog with a curious appetite is recovering from surgery to remove 62 hair bands, eight pairs of underwear and other items from her stomach.
Dr. Hisham Ibrahim of Good Shepherd's Veterinary Hospital in Mars said he spent two hours operating on Tiki, the Weiss family's black Labrador, and discovered the dog had swallowed items that also included four rubber bands and a Band-Aid.
"I found this hair band attached to another hair band to another one to another one and to other things again," Ibrahim told WTAE-TV.
"Four rubber bands, a Band-Aid, eight pairs of underwear and 62 hair bands is a lot to be in a dog's stomach, especially of Tiki's size," said Emily Cottle, Ibrahim's head veterinary technician.
Ibrahim said Tiki must have swallowed the items over the course of several days.
Sara Weiss, Tiki's owner, said the strangest thing the dog had previously swallowed was "a Nerf dart" that passed through her system naturally.
