MOSSEL BAY, South Africa, July 2 (UPI) -- Hillary Rae Petroski could have turned into shark bait had it not been for a strong dive cage separating her and an 11-foot great white.

In a video uploaded to YouTube Tuesday, Rae films the curious shark making a grand attempt at taking a chunk out of a metal cage she was inside off the coast of South Africa's Mossel Bay. In the background, her friend screams frantically while the shark bends and pulls at the cage's sides.

"The round buoy attached to the side of the cage was bent in half. Some of the lining of the outside blue barrier bar was bitten through as well. It was quite the up close and personal experience!" Petroski wrote in the video's description.

Luckily no one was hurt during the terrifying ordeal; the shark eventually lost interest and swam away, disappearing into the water. Yahoo reports Petroski uploaded the video to Facebook with the caption "My little fun adventure while shark cage diving in Mossel Bay."
