Swedish synchronized swimmers attempt routine drunk

UPPSALA, Sweden, June 30 (UPI) -- A Swedish synchronized swimming team was treated to free booze and asked to perform inebriated as part of a "Don't Drink and Dive" water safety campaign.

The organizers of the campaign, insurance firm Trygg-Hansa, said they enlisted the Stockholm Men's Synchronized Swimming Team to take a sloshed swim in Uppsala to show the drowning dangers related to alcohol.

The video posted to YouTube shows the team taking shots and squirting booze into each other's mouths with squirt guns before taking breath tests to ensure they are good and toasted before getting into the water.

The intoxicated swimmers then take to the water and attempt to repeat formations seen sober at the start of the video, but the alcohol appears to have affected their abilities to the point where some team members can barely keep themselves afloat.

Trygg-Hansa said team doctors and lifeguards were on hand to make sure the team members were not injured while filming the video.

The campaign said 2014 marked a 10-year high for drowning deaths in the country and middle-aged men were the group found to be at the highest risk for drowning under the influence of alcohol.
