Police: Fake name used by suspect was a wanted man

WHANGAREI, New Zealand, June 15 (UPI) -- A New Zealand man accused of giving police a fake name was arrested when officers discovered the name belongs to a wanted man.

Police said the 23-year-old suspect was pulled over Friday in Whangarei and he was arrested when officers determined the name he gave belonged to a man wanted for violating conditions of his bail.

The man was not fingerprinted due to the procedures for the charge, so police continued to believe the name he gave until he appeared in court.

He man's ruse was discovered when he was recognized by Ngawha Prison officials.

Police said the man is now facing charges of driving while disqualified, giving false details and perverting the course of justice.
