ASHEVILLE, N.C., June 3 (UPI) -- A North Carolina amateur scientist used a slow motion camera to answer an age-old question: What happens when a CD is hit with a sledgehammer?

The Slow Mo Lab video features Dima Kulakov explaining he found he had a surplus of unnecessary CDs while cleaning out his office so he decided to smash one with a sledgehammer.

The CD, which Kulakov misses on his first attempt, bends under the weight of the hammer before shattering into dozens of pieces.

Kulakov finishes the video by using a machete to chop two CDs that had been fitted together into a "double CD."
