Florida burglar awakened by homeowner after falling asleep on couch

SARASOTA, Fla., May 19 (UPI) -- A Florida man is facing felony burglary charges after police say he broke into a Sarasota home before falling asleep on the couch.

Officers arrested Timothy Bontrager, 29, Saturday morning, charging him with felony burglary of an occupied dwelling, the Bradenton Herald reports.

Police say Bontrager entered a home through a rear sliding glass door at some point in the night. The homeowner, an unidentified woman, woke around 7 a.m. to find him sleeping on the couch.

After waking Bontrager, she called the police. The burglar apologized and stumbled around the living room before exiting the house, taking with him the victim's wallet, driver's license, credit and debit cards, as well as personal checks -- all of which had been left on the living room table.

Police arrived on scene before catching up to Bontrager as he walked down the road. He is being held in the Sarasota County jail on $25,000 bond.

Last September, a similar incident occurred in Sarasota when a woman cleaning a home found a burglar asleep on a bed, a bag of stolen jewelry at his side.
