NORWAY, Wis., May 12 (UPI) -- A $100,000 yacht was found abandoned on the side of the road in Wisconsin after being stolen over Mother's Day weekend.

Authorities found the "Annie Mac" undamaged on the side of the highway in Norway, Wis., on Tuesday -- 40 miles from where it had been stored in Jerry's Dock Marina in Milwaukee, the vessel's owner, David Pakalski, told WISN.

Jerry Guyer, who runs the marina, realized Saturday the Annie Mac, which had been at his facility for three years, was gone and the lock for the front gate broken.

"We had thought maybe the owner came and took it, but when we talked this morning, he had no knowledge," Guyer told WISN at the time.

Guyer said surveillance footage indicates the thieves hitched the boat to a white pickup truck and were gone in about 30 minutes.

The Annie Mac is 45 feet long and sits on a 53-foot trailer, giving it a combined weight of approximately 12 tons.

Police say they believe the suspects suffered car troubles before abandoning the vessel.

Pakalski said it was "not like they'd be able to turn around and sell" the boat, given its high-profile nature.

"Somebody said it to me it's like hiding an elephant, and I said 'it's like hiding three elephants,'" he told WTMJ.

Palaski named the Annie Mac after his late mother. He recently put the yacht up for sale after he was diagnosed with leukemia. He was in Florida undergoing cancer treatment when he heard it was stolen and when police told him it was found.

"I said 'who in their right mind would ever try and steal a boat like this?'" Pakalski told WTMJ. "And of course someone tried to do it and I think they realized they bit off more than they could chew and that's why it showed up this morning."
