WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, April 28 (UPI) -- Police in Utah climbed into a storm drain for a "unique rescue operation" involving a family of eight wayward ducklings.

The West Valley City Police Department said a pair of detectives from the Community Response Unit were called to a neighborhood Monday on a report of "a frantic mama duck circling a storm drain."

The detectives determined eight ducklings had fallen into the drain and they "answered the 'quack' for help" by climbing into the narrow hole themselves and lifting the baby birds to safety.

The detectives "returned these lucky ducks to their worried mama, who quickly waddled them off to safer waters," the department said.
