CHICKASHA , Okla., April 28 (UPI) -- An Oklahoma police chase came to an end when a concerned citizen ran out into the road to block the path of a fleeing motorcyclist.

Police said Kansas native Floyd Briggs ran out into the street in Chickasha when he spotted police chasing a motorcyclist, later identified as Michael Coppedge, leading the biker to swerve and crash the motorcycle.

"I said 'I gotta stop this guy before he hurts a little kid,'" Briggs told WFOR-TV. "I ain't no football player either."

Coppedge fled on foot and Briggs gave chase.

"I was running out of steam very quick. I'm not very aerodynamic," Briggs said.

Coppedge was intercepted by Chickasha Police.

Police said they chased Coppedge when he was clocked going 63 mph in a 30 mph zone. Coppedge told police he fled because he did not have a license or insurance.

"That's not a serious thing right there... you get a ticket, slap on the hand, pay your fine, and go fix your problem," Briggs said.

Briggs said he wanted to apologize to any witnesses to the weekend incident.

"I did use some language that just isn't how I talk...Some of the words I used, I was pretty worked up. I'm sorry for that," Briggs said.

Coppedge, who was released from custody Monday, is facing charges of eluding a police officer and leaving the scene of an accident involving damage.
