LAS VEGAS, April 22 (UPI) -- A Las Vegas man captured video of a large dust devil swirling for several seconds around the city's iconic welcome sign.

Locals said dust devils -- small whirlwinds of air that are visible due to moving dust and debris -- are common in the nearby desert, but considerably less common at the Las Vegas sign, where Gill Perez caught one on camera Friday.

The dust devil was recorded just two days before Betty Willis, the designer of the Las Vegas sign, died Sunday at her home near the city. She was 91.
