WEST PITTSTON, Pa., April 21 (UPI) -- A Pennsylvania family says toilet paper and pieces of plastic that fell across their neighborhood early Monday were dumped by an aircraft, and the Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.

The debris rained down at 6:30 a.m., hitting several properties in West Pittston, Pa. Torn wads of tissue and shredded pieces of plastic bags covered roofs, lawns and trees.

A lawn owned by the Viccica family was one of the hardest hit.

"I just thought it was crazy, actually, 'cause you don't always wake up and see toilet paper in your trees," Tori Viccica told WNEP.

Viccici told the Times Leader that black mulch had been laid on the lawn over the weekend but that it was "not black anymore." Her 13-year-old daughter, Tori Viccica, said the debris smelled and appeared to mostly be toilet paper.

"I'd like to know what happened, how it happened, and I'd like to see it cleaned up," Tori Viccica said.

The family called the Environmental Protection Agency, which directed them to the FAA.

WNEP reports the FAA confirmed that an investigation into the matter is underway. Officials will examine samples of the debris and determine whether an aircraft passed through the area when the material rained down.
