YOSEMITE, Calif., March 31 (UPI) -- The California Highway Patrol released helicopter cam footage of the hoisting rescue of a hiker who became stranded on a ledge 320 feet over the ground.

Responders with the CHP and Yosemite Search and Rescue said the hiker, Kevin Baik, was with two friends Friday above the Yosemite Falls Trail when the group decided to take an off-trail shortcut on their way back and Baik became stranded on a ledge.

Baik spent the night on the ledge, located 320 feet above the ground, and built a fire to keep warm.

A CHP Valley Division Air Operations rescue helicopter was dispatched Saturday morning and rescuers recorded Baik's hoisting rescue on video.

The CHP said Baik was not injured and "was very relieved to be off the mountain."

"It is very important that visitors stay on designated trails and obey all signs for their safety," the highway patrol said. "Otherwise, they may find themselves in a similar predicament as Mr. Baik and his friends."
