PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla., March 9 (UPI) -- A Florida fisherman said he and his crew reeled in a 600-pound mako shark while fishing from the coast in Panama City Beach.

Matt Pemberton of the Off the Beach Shark Fishing group, said he and six other men, including employees and customers who pay to fish with the group on the beach, wrangled with the massive mako for about an hour and a half Thursday night.

"The fight was a long fight," Pemberton told WMBB-TV. "Wore us all out, really."

The 600-pound shark measured about 10 feet long. Mako sharks grow to an average 135-300 pounds, according to the Florida Museum of Natural History.

"We will be eating good for awhile," Pemberton posted on Facebook.
