"When the Garda picked him up, he started claiming that I attacked him. He was still telling them that in the station when I came in with the footage of him getting knocked out by his own brick," Gerry Brady said.

DROGHEDA , Ireland, March 2 (UPI) -- A would-be thief in Ireland was caught on camera throwing a brick that bounced off a car window and hit him in the face.

Gerry Brady, owner of the Pheasant Bar pub in Drogheda and the Mercedes parked near his business, said he found the man bleeding on the ground next to his car and initially thought the man must have been attacked.

Brady said he called the Garda police after the man demanded he hand over $56 for cab fare.

"He pulled himself up and said he wanted €50 [$56] for a taxi. I said 'Not a chance, I've to pay for a new window, mate.' That's when he leaned in and told me he'd burn me out of the pub," Brady told the Irish Independent.

Police arrived and arrested the man, who initially claimed Brady had attacked him. Brady said he was able to locate security footage showing the man injuring himself after repeatedly attempting to use smaller rocks to break the car's windows.

"When the Garda picked him up, he started claiming that I attacked him. He was still telling them that in the station when I came in with the footage of him getting knocked out by his own brick," Brady said. "You should have heard the Garda laughing when they saw the video. They were in stitches. Credit to them, they were straight out when we called and found the guy within minutes."

Brady posted the CCTV footage to YouTube under the title, "the thick with the brick."
