LONDON, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- The London Fire Brigade is bracing for Fifty Shades of Grey-inspired sexual mishaps with its "Fifty Shades of Red" education campaign.

The brigade said calls for sex-related problems such as being trapped or stuck -- often in "everyday household items" has increased steadily since the release of the Fifty Shades of Grey novel series and there were a total 472 incidents reported in the 2013-14 fiscal year.

Fire officials have been using the brigade's Twitter account and the hashtag "#FiftyShadesofRed" to recount some of the incidents in the hopes of dissuading members of the public from attempting similar feats.

"A woman rang after her husband was locked in a titanium chastity belt. Keep those keys handy!" the brigade tweeted.

The fire brigade said another incident involved firefighters using pedal cutters to free a man from two metal rings that were stuck on his penis for three days.

Crews also rescued a man whose penis became stuck in a toaster and another whose member was trapped in a vacuum cleaner.

"The Fifty Shades effect seems to spike handcuff incidents, so we hope filmgoers will use common sense and avoid leaving themselves red-faced," Third Officer Dave Brown said. "I'd like to remind everyone that 999 is an emergency number and should only be used as such. If there's a genuine emergency, fire crews will of course attend and will be on the scene to help within minutes."
