COPENHAGEN, Denmark, Jan. 27 (UPI) -- The Copenhagen Zoo has released footage of a rhinoceros being born and taking his first steps under the watchful eye of his mother.

The zoo said the rhino, the first to be born there in 35 years, was born Saturday and will be kept isolated with his mother before he is ready to go on display to the public.

Zookeepers said the rhino weighed in at 110 pounds after his birth and was observed nursing normally.

Rhinos are considered to be one of the world's most endangered species, owing in part to their being hunted for their horns.
