SHANGHAI, Dec. 5 (UPI) -- A Shanghai man has taken to the streets with a homemade car that measures 23.6 inches long and cost him only $244 to assemble.

Xu Zhiyun, 60, said his $244 mini car, which he designed and assembled himself, includes an engine, brakes, a gear-shifting system, front and rear lights, a horn and a sound system to play music.

Xu said it took him about two years to build the vehicle, which measures 23.6 inches long, 13.8 inches wide and 15.7 inches tall.

The homemade vehicle follows in the footsteps -- or tire treads -- of a replica Lamborghini roadster carved from mahogany by Yu Jietao of Putian, China. The roadster was outfitted with an electric engine and reaches a top speed of 18 mph.
