LONDON, Nov. 24 (UPI) -- Just two weeks after the opening of the 140-feet-high glass walkway at the London Tower bridge, someone dropped a beer bottle on it, cracking the glass.

Someone walked across the walkway during a private event Friday and dropped a glass beer bottle, shattering a layer of the glass. The situation was made worse by a woman walking across the pane in high heels. They covered the pane with a mat to prevent glass shards from harming anyone and replaced it two days later.

"We are gutted it's happened in the first couple of weeks when it's been open to the public but it's completely safe," said Tower Bridge head Chris Earlie. "We should have said no glass on the glass section of the floor. It was a bit shortsighted of us."

There was no danger of falling posed to anyone. The walkway is composed of panes with five layers of glass. The top layer is known as the "sacrificial layer" which can be broken without any danger. Earlie said they would have closed the entire walkway if there were "any concerns."

The walkway is a popular tourist attraction with breathtaking views over the Thames River.

"We look forward to continue welcoming visitors from across the globe to our attraction, and enjoying a unique viewpoint from one of London's most iconic landmarks," said the Tower Bridge in a statement.
