Baby penguin hatches at Chinese ocean park

The long-tailed Gentoo penguin is expected to be cared for by its mother for about 14 weeks.

HANGZHOU, China, Nov. 24 (UPI) -- The Hangzhou Ocean Park in China released aww-inspiring video of the moment a penguin chick hatched from its egg and took its first look at the world.

The video, dated Nov. 20, shows the long-tailed Gentoo penguin chick split its egg in half and slowly emerge from the shell before being welcomed into the world by a nudge from its mother's beak.

Gentoo penguin eggs incubate for an average 34 days and chicks are normally cared for by their mothers for about 14 weeks after hatching.
