ALBUQUERQUE, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Police in New Mexico said a burglary suspect identified using DNA evidence should have thrown away his used Coke can and flushed the toilet.

Albuquerque police said Ramon Herrera, 33, burglarized a home in September while the residents were on vacation and made off with $250,000 worth of jewelry.

Investigators said Herrera left behind two crucial clues -- an empty Coke can and a toilet he used without flushing.

The Coke can, which police said Herrera had left with a note reading, "Sorry," contained enough DNA evidence to identify Herrera as the suspect, investigators said.

Police said Herrera sold jewelry to pawn shops nine times after the burglary.

Herrera was arrested on charges of residential burglary and larceny over $20,000.
