Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe CHESHIRE, Conn., Oct. 21 (UPI) -- A man serving a prison sentence for murder in Connecticut is suing the state over its ban on printed pornography in prisons. Dwight Pink, Jr., 40, who is serving a 56-year sentence for a 1998 murder, filed a lawsuit challenging the state's ban on printed materials depicting nudity or sexual activity, alleging the ban is an infringement of his right to free speech. Advertisement Pink filed the lawsuit after he was denied a book called The Atlas of Foreshortening, which contains photos of nude male and female models in various poses. The book is designed to teach artists how to draw the human body. The state's Department of Corrections instituted the ban in 2012. It includes an exception for "materials which, taken as a whole, are literary, artistic, educational or scientific in nature." A response filed by the state Monday said Pink's rights were not violated and the ban has not harmed him. The lawsuit is seeking an end to the ban as well as $25,000 and attorney's fees.
