OAKDALE, Calif., Sept. 30 (UPI) -- Passengers on a California train are being asked to perform an important service during their ride -- shooting the attacking zombie hordes.

The Sierra Railroad Oakdale Zombie Train, which is run by Sierra Railroad Dinner Train, outfits each passenger on the Saturday rides with a laser gun they can use to shoot the zombie hordes that attack the vehicle during the two-hour rides.

The train rides, which have both family-friendly afternoon versions and night trains featuring more fake gore and stronger language, also have planted actors among the passengers who end up as meals for the undead attackers.

Randy McTaggart of the Sierra Railroad Dinner Train said the Oakdale train and a similar ride in Sacramento have been rapidly selling out. The Oakdale Zombie Train has two dates left, Oct. 18 and Nov. 1, before stopping until the next season begins in March.

McTaggart said the zombies in next year's shows will be equipped with belts that will flash lights when the wearer is shot by one of the guns, which he said cost a total $50,000.

"These are not cheap guns. These are the same heavy guns the military uses in their exercises," he told The Modesto Bee.
