Spanish daily Hoy reported the man was confronted by two civil guard officers who demanded to see some ID.

The swine-swiper was quoted as telling police they had "no right to take him" and struggled with the two officers before being subdued and arrested.

The court heard one of the officers sustained injuries that kept him from his duties for 30 days following the 2011 incident while the other required 90 days of therapy for trauma stemming from the incident.

The man was ordered to pay $976 in compensation to the owner of the ham and $9,246 total compensation to the two officers. He was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison.
