EDINBURGH, Scotland, Sept. 18 (UPI) -- Despite the United Kingdom's extremely strict regulations banning the media from collecting or reporting exit polls, one clever Grindr user messaged other gay men on the hookup app in attempt to conduct his own poll on the Scottish independence referendum.

"Good morning, Grindr user," Grindr and Tumblr user MachoTrouts begins his messages before conducting his opinion pols

"Do you believe Scotland should be an dependent country?"

Some users, such as Grindr user Pal Lap, offered well thought out insights, speaking to deeply personal concerns about the future of Scotland and the world.

"I believe Scotland could be a successful independent country," responded Pal Lap.

"[Scotland]'s got a people with a strong cultural identity with a great history of innovation and creativity in a country of many untapped natural resources. One of the most valuable assets on the planet is water."

"Although my heart says yes, my risk adverse[sic] nature and head over rules that, so I'll be voting no on Tuesday," added a user going by "J."

"Bigger countries, better to survive," said a Spanish Grindr user who supports keeping the United Kingdom in tact.

"But I respect any democratic decision. In Catalonia they don't let [us] vote, that's worse!"

Others were not amused.

"I'm not on here for politics," said MILK ME.

"[You're] boring," echoed a presumably male user known only as the symbol for the clubs suit from a traditional deck of cards.

Some were happy to answer the question, and even a little turned on.

"Not made my mind up 100 percent yet," admitted Meet now.. before asking MachoTrouts, "[You] looking to meet older guys then are ya?"

All told, MachoTrout's final exit poll gave a slight advantage to keeping the U.K. together, with 53 percet of answering users favoring unity versus 47 percent for independence.
