NEW YORK, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- New York police said they busted Minnie Mouse, the Statue of Liberty and Toy Story cowboy Woody for demanding tips in Times Square.

Police said Minnie, aka Carmen Dinegro, 47; Lady Liberty, aka Hugo Smith-Gomez, 34; and Woody, aka Eimer Perales, 42, were arrested Wednesday night for unlawful solicitation after tourists complained about the characters asking for $5 tips in exchange for posing for photos.

Police have recently been distributing fliers in Times Square to inform tourists that they are not obligated to tip the costumed characters.

The arrests came nearly two months after a man dressed as Spider-Man allegedly punched a police officer in Times Square for telling him not to demand tips from tourists.
