CHICOPEE, Mass., Sept. 3 (UPI) -- A Massachusetts woman received a traffic citation after trying to fool state police into thinking her cardboard license plate was real.

Springfield resident Johanna Baez-Rodriguez drew "Massachusetts" and "The Spirit of America" in blue and red lettering on a piece of cardboard and attached it to her 1991 Honda Accord. Trooper Nicole Morrell noticed the fake license plate and that Baez-Rodriguez, 20, drew everything accurately, except she forgot the inspection sticker.

Morrell cited her for multiple violations including operating with a suspended license and revoked registration.

"It's illegal," said Morrell. "To be on the road you need to have a registered vehicle and a proper registration sticker or you will get a citation."
