OLKHON ISLAND, Russia, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- A lucky prairie dog in Russia has avoided becoming road kill after a pair of good Samaritans freed the fat rodent from a hole in the road in which it was stuck.

The video shows a man and woman approach the prairie dog on a scenic road on Russia's Olkhon Island when the woman realizes they're about to run over it.

The sympathetic drivers get out to check on the rodent, to discover it was too fat to escape from its hole, creating a real life whack-a-mole target.

The couple bravely rescued the prairie dog from its predicament, before it sprinted away.

Posted Tuesday, the video already has nearly 2.4 million views.
