BAKER, Mont., Aug. 19 (UPI) -- A concert by 80s pop star Rick Springfield had to be canceled after severe weather destroyed equipment and freed a group of nearby alpacas at a Montana area fair on Saturday.

At about 6 p.m. Saturday evening, skies darkened dramatically over the Fallon County Fair and wind gusts between 40-60 m.p.h. began roaring through.

Within minutes, tents were flying, equipment was soaked and a group of alpacas were running free after their pen had been destroyed.

A video posted to Springfield's official Facebook page shows his crew lamenting damaged equipment and fearing for children as the alpacas are freed.

"We played a fair in Montana yesterday," Springfield wrote on Facebook.

"Well, we didn't actually play because [a thunderstorm] happened. My amp and a couple of guitars are toast. So much for playing outdoor gigs in tornado country!"
