About 75 pounds of shark meat was cooked, breaded, baked and served to poor and homeless people at Timon's Ministries in Corpus Christi.
The generous fisherman, Ryan Spring, hauled in the more-than-12-foot shark after battling it for about seven hours.
"It was the biggest fish that has ever been donated to us," Kae Berry, the executive director of the center, told the San Antonio Express-News. "It was really helpful, out of the ordinary and fun."
The center's regular kitchen manager was unsure about what to do with shark, so a volunteer chef prepared the meat "and most people really enjoyed it," Berry said.
As an added bonus, there is enough meat to make a seafood stew next week.
