DES MOINES, Iowa, Aug. 14 (UPI) -- Facebook will not be shutting down a page on its site that has ostensibly been set up to shame people who attend the state fair in Iowa.

According to the social media site, the "People of the Iowa State Fair" page does not "violate community standards."

Comments and photos on the page routinely mock people for their weight, appearance, attire or assumed sexual orientation.

"We don't have any affiliation with it," Iowa State Fair spokeswoman Lori Chappell told WHO TV. "It's kind of a hurtful Facebook page."

The fair has filed a complaint with Facebook asking that the page be taken down, but the site will not grant the request. Fair representatives also haven't had any success dealing with the administrators of the site.

"I have read comments every bit as offensive on many, many other Facebook pages," an administrator of the page wrote in a statement. "It is the real world, and people will be themselves, and you are not guaranteed the right to go through life un-offended."
