NORTHUMBERLAND, England, Aug. 6 (UPI) --
A baby seal that was tired of riding the waves alone attempted to join up with a couple of surfers who were in the water in England off the coast of Northumberland on Sunday.
The seal pup tried to "hang ten" with surfers Matt Stanley and Andrew Flounders for more than an hour.
"It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience," Stanley told the BBC. "I admit we lost interest in the surfing for a bit. I've never seen a seal that close up, never mind one sitting on board."
The whole thing was captured on a sports camera and the seal does have some skills.
"We had just been joking about the lack of seals in the sea and perhaps there might be a shark around as the water was very warm," Flounders told the Northumberland Gazette.
Flounders described the seal as "really, really friendly."
When the surfers started to leave the sea, the seal attempted to follow them back to shore.
