ST. PETERSBURG , Fla., Aug. 5 (UPI) -- A Florida man who was hit by lighting while standing outside a gas station in St. Petersburg was able to get up and walk away from the unlucky strike.

The man was with a group of people hiding from the rain under an awning at a BP station. After he was struck, the man got up and walked inside of the store.

"He got hit, he got hit," the man's friends said as he walked into the shop.

Emergency personnel were called and they determined the only thing wrong with the man was high blood pressure. He refused to be taken to the hospital.

"I felt it, I could feel it from him," a witness told the Tampa Bay Times.

EMTs had no choice but to release him.

"The bottom line is, thank God he's okay," said station owner Matt Yaghoubi.
