NEW YORK, Aug. 4 (UPI) -- The Princeton Review released its 2014 college rankings Monday, placing Syracuse University in the top spot for best party school.

The upstate New York school bumped the University of Iowa to the No. 2 spot. Other schools that made the list include: University of California at Santa Barbara, West Virginia University, Penn State University, Bucknell University and the University of Florida.

The Princeton Review said the list is compiled based on the ratings of 130,000 students at 379 top colleges who rate their schools on dozens of topics and write about their campus experiences.

"Every college in our book offers outstanding academics," said Princeton Review Senior Vice President Robert Franek. "These colleges differ significantly in their program offerings, campus culture, locales, and cost. Our purpose is not to crown one college 'best' overall or to rank these distinctive schools 1 to 379 on any single topic. We present our 62 ranking lists to give applicants the broader base of campus feedback to choose the college that's best for them."

"The Best 379 Colleges" list has been published annually since 1992.
