EAST HANOVER, N.J., July 18 (UPI) -- This is either a disappointing or relieving way to kick off the weekend depending on your point of view, but it has become apparent that Fried Chicken Oreos do not exist.

At least not yet.

Photos of the chicken-flavored cookies began circulating on the Internet earlier this week, to the delight, and chagrin, of many.

No matter which side of the fence individuals were on, people on social media were eating up the rumor, although some had a feeling it might be false.

As it turns out, some things are too good (or bad) to be true.

"A fan who really liked the Fruit Punch flavor came up with the fried chicken OREO packaging photo as a sort of joke," an Oreo rep told Eater. "It's clearly gotten some traction over the internet, but the Fried Chicken OREO flavor is fake."

For anyone saddened by the news, there is a recipe for Oreo Chicken Tenders courtesy of L.A. chef Roy Choi and Thrillist.

"By adding crushed-up Golden Oreos to his more traditional panko, parsley, salt, and pepper seasoning, Choi introduced a very slight sweetness to the tenders," the site says.
