OTTAWA, June 25 (UPI) -- A Canadian cyclist who was attacked by a Canada goose while she was riding her bike in Ottawa spent five days in the hospital after suffering a concussion, a fractured cheekbone and facial lacerations.

Kerry Surman was biking when she saw a family of geese crossing the trail. She tried to get past the family without interrupting the animals, but one goose "misjudged" her intentions.

"What I remember is the goose giving me the evil eye and then the goose wrapping its wings around my head, and I can't see and I hear myself screaming," Surman told the CBC News.

Surman woke up on the ground and had issues getting back up. She believes that her bicycle helmet and sunglasses prevented her from suffering more serious injuries.

The cyclist and her husband had faced a similar situation with geese about three weeks earlier, but nothing happened.

The next time Surman encounters geese, she will be much more careful. "You have to know they are going to attack if they feel threatened," she said.
